We took the 1 hour train from Basel SBB to Zurich HB last weekend to meet up with a friend of David's. She is also here on assignment with her husband and family of 3 boys (God bless her - I already thought moving 2 was the limit but she managed it with 3 little ones and at around the same age we did with ours).

So we met up at Zurich HB, which is the main train station since they live a few train stops away. We stopped in the MigroLino to get some snacks on our way. Migros is one of the main shopping stores in Switzerland (along with Coop) and you know how big it is by how many "M"s are shown outside. MMM is the biggest, MM less so, and so forth and so on. This is the smallest but totally great for snacks - we got some sandwiches, chips, and sodas.

Admittedly a pic from a different day/park but they have these swings at all the parks here and the kids love them.
We then walked down the central street where the river/canal is (BahnhofQuai). There is a nice little park nearby, if you turn on Beatenplatz and then head up Lindenhofstrasse. It's got a fabulous view and a nice play area for the kids. Plus, a great grass area where you can picnic!

From there, we walked up a little further to the top of the old wall to a park called Lindenhof, which had even more play areas for the kids - a sand pit, fountain (ok, that was not for playing but the kids thought it was), swings, and a giant chess board. Also another great view of the city. :)

Enjoying the old wall of the city (carefully! It's a long drop down!)

We happened to be visiting on the same day as the Zurich marathon and saw many people finishing up their race. We also got treated to several concerts by the bands that were there for the race as we walked back up the Bahnhofstrasse (main road). It was already a long afternoon for the kids so we didn't make it down to the Zurichsee (Lake Zurich) before we had to go back.

Walking down the road. Just a typical Zurich street!
On the way home, we got a nice surprise and we boarded a train with a Family Zone. Even better, it's a Family Zone with a play area on board! Z spent the entire ride playing on it (a little challenging for someone who just learned to walk while the train is tilting back and forth but there were only a few bad crashes). You can actually see if you have these when booking the train on the SBB app (which is easy to use and great!)

Just another beautiful Sunday in Switzerland!

End of a big day
